2006/ 2007 RAV4 ABS Cable Vulnerability
Why should you worry about this design "feature"? The rear ABS sensor cables exit the rear wheel well bulkhead 2 inches inboard from the tire sidewall, directly above the axle centerline. If you ever considered installing a set of snow cables on the rear tires, think again. With the cables installed, the clearance will be reduced to under 1 inch. A loose or floppy side adjuster will annihilate the ABS wires in "a minute less than no time", as was so aptly put on "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" long ago. Even driving across a muddy, grassy field will endanger these wires.
I plan to fabricate some simple sheet metal guards to hold these cables securely against the bulkhead - I will post pics then.
With the rear tire in the air the cable is easy to spot. When the tire rises to the normal position the cable can be felt, but not easily seen.
Looking straight down onto the cable with the tire in the normal driving position.
