IMPORTANT UPDATE 01/28/10!!!: I (spokanister) am no longer active at the WIRM Yahoo group - I have sold my KTM and am no longer riding.

Please send your personal information to Bill Bartlett, the new chief moderator for WIRM.  To prevent spambots from stealing it, the following email address is NOT clickable - please copy the text manually into your email program's address box.

UPDATE 07/23/08: I have uninstalled the WIRM WebCalendar. Nobody was using it except increasing numbers of SPAMMERS, jerks and idiots. I am tired of dealing with this. spokanister

WIRM

Washington Idaho Riders and Montana

Dual Sport Group

LOCAL RIDERS LISTEN UP! Want to ride with other WIRMs? Bored and want new scenery and fresh places to explore? Just need to be around others with similar interests?

If you live in Spokane, nearby NE Washington, the Idaho Panhandle, or western MT, and want to be added to a new Dual Sport Group, please contact me! Riders from further away are welcome. More info:

WIRM Yahoo Group: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/WIRMdualsport/

Most WIRMs hang out at one or more Adventure Rider forums also:

Pacific Northwet Forum (Idaho and to the west, mostly): http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48

Rockies Forum (Montana and to the east, mostly): http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28

By giving me all the requested info, it helps me so I can fill out the member bio data on an Excel spreadsheet. Most of the info will be available to all members so they can contact other riders and see what they like to do and when they can ride. If you don't give me everything requested, it limits the usefulness of the database. This won't be the only means of communicating, but it will be an important one. It will also be available as a simple list, in Word or other format .

PLEASE NOTE:

NONE of your personal email information will ever be posted publicly by me, here or anywhere else, without your express permission. I need your email address for Admin reasons only. HOWEVER: the other information and your phone number will be available to other WIRM Yahoo Group members in the Files section, and I don't have any control over what might happen after that. If you think that sending personal contact information to other riders is too risky or a mistake, PLEASE withhold that info from your application.

Email communications from within Yahoo Groups is a secure as it can get on the Internet. If you choose to share your email address with other riders, that is your decision.

Talk to me, and together we can set up a valuable Dual Sport rider's resource.

If you want to be added to this list you MUST contact me either via email or at Adventure Rider, and send me the following information:

Full name and AdvRider or other "handle", if you have one. Please include the latter, since it simplifies sending a PM at that site.

Primary Email address (secondary account OK if you check it often)

    Phone number(s)

Location (general, no specific address unless you want to supply it)

Dual Sport bike(s) that you own. You don't need to list street or dirt bikes unless you want to.

Type of DS riding you prefer

examples: farm, gravel, National Forest, any, multi-day, epic

Days you are usually free to ride, and for how long

examples: 3 hours, all day, summer weekends only

Like to camp? Yes or no.

Own a gps? Yes or no.

Other interests or special skills that might help others understand your life and desires.

Profession: what do you do in your other life?

Home Waypoint: if you have a gps waypoint, or just know your Lat/ Log, or want to send me exact address info, I can add your location to the Group Waypoints file, so other riders will see where to bring the beer. This is definitely optional, but cool. If you aren't specific, you will be stuck in the middle of your city.

GPS data showing Member Location:

Click the thumbnail above for a sample screen shot from an older file.

Update 01/01/08: These files will be updated often, but THEY CAN ONLY BE FOUND IN THE YAHOO GROUP "FILES" SECTION, so check there for the latest info.

Waypoints show the Member's Adventure Rider name and gps location. Most of them are approximate, since I don't know your addresses, some are suffixed "CLOSE" or "EXACT". If you know your Lat/ Log or want to send me a waypoint in gdb or gpx format, or your exact address, I can refine your position so others can zero in on you. It's up to you. If you don't own a gps, but want to just view the info, try free Google Earth using the universal "gpx" version.

It's pretty cool to see the distribution of Members, and who lives close by you. JD 02/14/07

UPDATE 02/23/07: If you want to figure out your own GPS coordinates, you can go here:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert?form=address

Enter your exact street address, and then you will receive the coordinates in two different formats. Send the info to me and I can plot your exact position. Example: my home address comes out as:

47.729713, -117.444627

** OR **

N47°43.78278, W117°26.67762

Send me the _second_ one, which is easiest for me to "plug in" to MapSource. Or just both, and I will choose....
