Washington Street Legal Dual Sport

158 hrs, 4653 miles.

$4000/ Offers

I will take $250 off if any current WIRM member buys this bike, OR I will throw in the 25 liter Acerbis tank AND the Blue Ridge Racing Stage 3 tool bag. You can't zip over and join WIRM and then get this deal......

***I will consider partial trade for firearms – like a 5.56mm Evil Black Rifle, big bore Sharps or Marlin lever action rifle, 5.56 mm ammo, or ??? Let’s haggle.***

I PREFER A FACE TO FACE SALE - EASTERN WASHINGTON/ NORTH IDAHO, WESTERN MONTANA. I will consider delivering the bike within a two hour drive of Spokane WA. I really don't want to crate this bike....

The KTM Valdez is for sale! KTM Valdez Index Page

I have owned this bike since it was new in the crate and I have ridden it primarily on farm and forest roads. It has never been raced, has rarely seen mud or sand, and since I am an Old Fart, I ride real easy. The ONLY reason I am selling the bike is that I am developing arthritis and I have a hard time getting my leg over that tall saddle, and my body just hurts too much after I ride.

The bike has standard suspension, set up for a 160 pound rider.

NOTE:!!! The OEM 2 gallon tank is installed, and the 25 liter (6.5 gal) Acerbis “KTM Valdez” tank with all petcocks and hardware is available for an extra $100.

The bike is fully street legal in WA, but has no turn signals (though it is pre-wired for them) It has an upgraded DC charging system (about 105 watts) good enough to run a light duty electric vest or grip heaters and still keep the fan and battery happy.

The plastic is scarred up from those inevitable slide-outs, but the bike has never crashed hard. If the battle scars bother you, you can buy a complete Acerbis orange or black plastic kit on eBay for $100.

I am an ex-motorcycle mechanic and A&P mechanic, and I am told that I am excessively anal about my machinery. This bike has been well cared for, has been serviced regularly and always stored indoors. I have just gone through the bike, pulled off all the body work, and serviced and detailed everything. All the fluids are fresh except the suspension fluid. I adjusted the valves, inspected the rear sub frame, cleaned the carb, and looked everything over. Following are the only issues that I am aware of:

  • There is a _very_ slight oil weep from the gasket at the front of the clutch cover. It is negligible but I am including a new gasket.
  • The return throttle cable has one strand broken at the carburetor. This is a common problem with these bikes, but the cable has a long way to go yet. I suggest that it be inspected every 25 hours. I am including a new  throttle cable set.
  • The front rubber swing arm guard is worn but serviceable. I suggest it be replaced if the OEM chain and sprockets ever wear out. I am including a new guard.

INSTALLED ACCESSORIES:

KTM:

  • Starter intermediate gear upgrade to 2006 specs – new gear ("torque limiter"), needle bearings, seals and new 2006 clutch cover. Prevents starter gear damage (broken teeth) due to engine kickback. ANY 2005 or older RFS that you are considering needs this fix! SEE http://ktmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=139918

  • Cooling fan kit with thermo switch. No overheating problems.
  • 13 tooth countershaft sprocket (gearing 13/48)
  • 3/4 inch handlebar risers
  • Rear axle sliders – right one is worn from a low speed slide out on gravel
  • Throttle with changeable cams, aluminum alloy. The stock cam is installed, Two extra “slower” cams are included. For loose surfaces or mud you get better control with a slower cam.
  • Hand guard mounts, U shaped for cable clearance
  • USD fork protector decals. Prevents rock damage to uppers.

Slaven’s Racing:

  • Fuel mixture screw, extended with o-ring to prevent creep. Easy to adjust while mounted in the saddle.
  • Clutch slave cylinder guard. Protects against a thrown chain.
  • Oil screen bolt, steel hex head (for short screen). Replaces the easy to strip OEM socket bolt
  • LED tail/ brake light. This is a very sexy, low draw light, and is 100% trouble free, unlike the OEM tail light.

Enduro Engineering:

  • License Plate Holder
  • Brake light switch, hydraulic
  • Exhaust guard, rear. Prevents a melted boot heel.
  • Skid plate, aluminum, drilled and bed-lined inside, with rear brake brush cable
  • Handlebar cross bar, for gps and/ or route sheet holder. The OEM bar has nowhere to mount accessories. SEE http://www.spokanister.net/images_web/KTM_Tech/Cockpit-001.JPG

Trail Tech:

Bullet Proof Designs:

Baja Designs:

  • Left grip switch cluster and harness– Hi/ Lo beam, horn, hi beam indicator, kill, turn signal (TS not connected or installed). Bike can run without lights operating for added DC charging.

Hammerhead Designs:

  • Offset folding shifter +10 mm length, for size 44 (US 10) MX boots. Tip is adjustable up and down (slightly). SEE http://www.spokanister.net/ktm_HHD_Shifter.html
  • Drilled shifter bolt, safety wired to shifter. No more lost or loose shifter bolts.

Miscellaneous:

  • Knobbylips Quiet Muffler Mod with down turned tip - the increased can volume takes 450 grams (1 lb) of Silent Sport packing. SEE http://www.spokanister.net/ktm_muffler.htm
  • Stator mod – floated ground, rewound with extra heavier gage wire, estimated output 105 watts DC. SEE http://www.spokanister.net/ktm_stator.htm
  • 2 mirrors, Dual Star low mount (Third Eye). These mirrors survive crashes and do not get trail damage. They are a little hard to see out of - you have to look under your arm.
  • James Dean Jetting Kit, with instructions and spare jets and needle.
  • Electric horn, MegAlert. “Meep Meep!” mounted behind headlight mask.
  • Hand guards with fairings, Moose Racing. Scarring/ scratches on the ends.
  • Dunlop D606 rear tire 130/90-18 DOT, 60% tread (OD is 5mm more than OEM)
  • Pirelli MT-21 front tire 90/90-21 DOT 95% tread
  • Heavy duty tubes, wheel rims balanced
  • GPS antenna Gillson 20 dba amplified, mounted on front fender brace. Helps maintain satellite lock when riding under heavy tree cover or down in a canyon. Standard mini connector, gold plated. SEE http://www.spokanister.net/ktm_Gps_antenna.html
  • Bike is wired for gps or other DC accessory, 10 amp fuse. The circuit is hot all the time so that your gps won't shut down when you stop the engine.
  • 12 volt DC two pin outlet in the air box, for battery trickle charger or electric vest (10 amp fused circuit)
  • Recent Yuasa YTZ7S battery, new 05/08.
  • Rear fender shelf, for Blue Ridge Racing Stage 3 tool bag (not included) or LIGHT WEIGHT items like a small clothing duffle - recommended load 5 pounds or less. The sub frame is not reinforced, so you need to be cautious about this.
  • Safety wired oil plugs and timing bolt.
  • Skeletonized KTM rear chain guard. Prevents twisting from rock impacts.
  • Spare throttle cable set
  • Spare clutch cover gasket
  • Spare front swing arm guard
  • Used 14 tooth countershaft sprocket (1000 miles)
  • All original books and KTM soft case
  • 2004 RFS Engine Repair Manual and extra tech info
  • Miscellaneous fluids and gaskets
  • New 21 inch standard inner tube
  • Muffler transport/ wash plug (it is not needed with the down-turned tip muffler mod)
  • 2 -Spare headlight bulbs
  • Box of Goodies – hardware, hoses, fasteners, clamps, o-rings, gaskets, all sorts of KTM spares in a plastic tackle box.
